GOOD TROUBLE DOESN’T RETREAT — IT REGROUPS
For 19 months, Haywood County has shown up. Saturday after Saturday. Rain. Heat. Cold. Signs raised. Voices heard. Feet planted. We’ve marched. We’ve protested. We’ve stood in silence. We’ve gathered at vigils and courthouse corners. And we’re still here.
But let’s be honest: Good trouble is exhausting. After 19 months of fighting for democracy, even the strongest among us can get tired. And that’s okay. Taking a breath is not surrender. Rest is not retreat. Sometimes you don’t stop the fight. You change where you stand.
So this time, Haywood — let’s take our good trouble to Sylva.
On October 17, we’re crossing the mountain. Not because Haywood is giving up. Because Haywood knows we are stronger when we stop fighting alone. Sylva is holding the line. So are Hendersonville. So is Asheville. So are communities across Western North Carolina.
Different towns. Different faces. One democracy. And that means we show up for each other.
We don’t need another Saturday trying to do everything ourselves. We need to fill the cars, cross the mountain, raise our signs, raise our voices, and remind our neighbors that they are not standing alone.
Bring your friends. Bring your neighbors. Bring your signs. Bring your voice. Bring your cape. Because apparently democracy needs superheroes now.
But make no mistake: This isn’t just a rally. It’s a statement. We are not spectators. We are citizens. We are voters. We are neighbors. And we are not handing our democracy over to apathy, exhaustion, or silence.
America is a democracy. Not a monarchy. No crowns. No thrones. No political royalty. We choose our leaders. And when election day comes, we use the most powerful tool ordinary people have: OUR VOTE.
So take the Saturday off from organizing in Haywood. Let somebody else hold the local clipboard. Let somebody else lead the local rally. Then get in the damn car and head to Sylva.
Because sometimes solidarity isn’t a Facebook post. Sometimes it isn’t a thumbs-up. Sometimes it means showing up.
October 17
Fountain in downtown Sylva, 3–5 PM NO KINGS. VOTE EARLY. BRING YOUR VOICE. BRING YOUR COURAGE. BRING YOUR GOOD TROUBLE.
Haywood has spent 19 months proving we can show up. Now let’s prove something bigger: Western North Carolina can stand together. And when we do? The mountains get loud.
